National Referendum Declaration

Zimbabwe stands at a defining constitutional moment. A proposed constitutional amendment seeks to extend presidential and parliamentary tenure without direct approval by the citizens of Zimbabwe.

This is not a minor procedural reform. It alters the sovereign right of the people to choose their leaders at regular constitutional intervals. The Constitution of Zimbabwe (2013) was adopted by referendum. Any change affecting the people's right to elect and replace leadership must therefore return to the people.
